About Evvie

Evvie Lionheart is a facilitator, writer, and survivor living at the intersection of personal and planetary healing. The Climate Somatics blog is one iteration of their work: a living, public experiment in navigating the climate emergency from the nervous system outward.

Evvie’s expertise reflects a lifelong navigation of systems. A professional background in social work, higher education, and healthcare case management built a foundation in supporting people in crisis, work deepened by their own experience as a cult survivor. For over a decade, they balanced this employed work with self-employment, founding Emergent Phoenix in 2016 as a vessel for herbalism, somatic coaching, and abolitionist facilitation. This "rebirth" was a strategic effort to build purpose and financial security outside of traditional employment structures.

A severe, undiagnosed autoimmune illness, exacerbated by the climate extremes of the Pacific Northwest, made that balancing act unsustainable, leading to a period of profound health and housing instability. This crisis prompted a move to Belize in search of community and a more survivable environment. Here, in 2024, the abstract connections became an embodied reality. They received a formal autoimmune diagnosis delivered in the context of surviving a historic heat wave, intimately linking personal health collapse to the planetary one. This somatic confrontation crystallized a new focus: the climate crisis is a present, physical experience. It made clear the need for a dedicated container to explore this reality.

Thus, Emergent Phoenix is respectfully sunsetting to make space for Climate Somatics. This new practice is grounded in Evvie's belief that our capacity to meet current polycrises depends on our ability to regulate, connect, and collaborate from an embodied place. Evvie continues this embodied work as a co-founder and facilitator with R.A.I.S.E. CIC, supporting survivors of coercive control, while Climate Somatics is the primary vessel for their climate-focused explorations.

This blog is the repository for that experiment. Here, Evvie shares raw reflections and evolving ideas as an open inquiry. Each essay is an invitation to a private, direct dialogue. You will find a “Share Your Reflections” area at the end of every post. This conduit for personal reflections is offered in the same spirit of vulnerable exploration that shapes the writing.
