A journey from social work to climate somatics, shaped by determination and adaptation
Meet Evvie Lionheart
About Evvie
I'm Evvie. I'm a Black neurospicy modern witch and diasporic nomad. I'm a peer support specialist, herbalist, somatic practitioner, cult survivor, astrologer, and co-founder of a community interest company called R.A.I.S.E. that supports people surviving coercive control.
This blog is where I write about how I'm creatively surviving the poly-crises. Climate Somatics is my emergent response: plant medicine, honoring lunar cycles, navigating ancestral rage, autoimmune flares, betrayal, the slow work of building more cooperative futures, and the audacity to keep my heart open while the world burns around me.
I don't do pretense. But I do daydream about a world where love is the predominant frequency.

What do I write about?
Climate somatics — how the earth's burning times live in our nervous systems.
The plant kingdom as allies — plants that help me survive inflammation, grief, and ancestral rage.
Astrology as timekeeping — The celestial scaffolding that helps me choose my battles.
Peer support & cult recovery — because coercion and control don't end just because you know about them.
Cooperative economics — building collectives in emergent ways that can weather feast and famine.
The actual messy details — court dates, immigration, divorce, and the somatic practice of strategic surrender
This blog is not meant to house solutions, but documentation: what I tried, what worked, what crashed and burned, what tended and cooled the fires.
Where is this going?
That's a great question I also would love the answer to. Its something I ask the ancestors almost daily.
For now here's what I am up to: I'm a co-director of R.A.I.S.E. CIC, a company supporting cult survivors in the UK. I'm also a Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist, a student in a Master's program in Global Health, and someone who cries singing Garifuna spirituals. I practice somatics every day. I am learning to re-center myself in my own life.
This blog is the public repository for my somatic experiments. Each post ends with an invitation to share your reflections because peer support taught me that healing happens in dialogue, not monologue.
Take what lands. Leave what doesn't. Reach out if you feel moved.
How did I get here?
For much of my early adulthood, I ran a sole proprietorship called Emergent Phoenix — herbalism, somatic coaching, astrology readings, and abolitionist facilitation. I also worked in social work, higher ed, and healthcare case management. I thought if I just hustled harder, I could build security outside traditional employment.
Then my body said no.
An undiagnosed autoimmune illness— worsened by climate extremes —sent me into a spiral of health and housing collapse. I moved to Belize for 3 years in search of a survivable environment and community. In 2024, I got a formal autoimmune diagnosis during a historic El Niño in the Caribbean. The connection between personal collapse and planetary collapse stopped being abstract. It was the fire in my bones, visible in my body's inflammation markers.
That confrontation clarified something: the climate crisis isn't a future problem. It's a present, physical experience. And our capacity to meet it depends on our ability to regulate, connect, and collaborate from an embodied place.
So I sunsetted Emergent Phoenix and started Climate Somatics.
